Masters Graduate Research Assistant
Hello, My name is Maisha Epps. I recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of West Florida, where I studied submerged aquatic macrophytes. There I studied how freshwater macrophytes interact with the soil in terms of dissolved oxygen. I started at UGA in the Fall of 2022, where I currently study Environmental DNA (eDNA) in an estuarine environment using molecular techniques in relation to an invasive species of crab, Aratus pisonii found in the Georgia GCE LTER. I am in the process of developing target-specific primers that can detect the species Aratus pisonii using eDNA collected from the estuary. My interests include marine conservation and I hope to learn more about the field and eventually start a career in this field! I like watching Netflix, reading, and hanging out with friends and family during my free time. I greatly appreciate the outdoors and love to try new things!
